Hotel Katsuragi

Both onsens shut at 11pm, so keep the time in mind. The partner hotel’s onsen was better than the one at this resort, which I found poorly decorated. We booked a room with meals. Dinner was just so-so, though I was surprised to find yakiniku on the menu. The restaurant was very crowded, the atmosphere wasn’t great, and the hygiene seemed so-so. There was a BBQ smell everywhere.

I liked being a short walk from a street marketplace, and the hot springs nearby may suit people who want to use them. I was here on business to visit customers, though, and didn’t go to the springs. The room wasn’t very comfortable for me: the bed was hard, the pillows weren’t comfortable, and the bathroom was tiny. At 5'9", my knees touched the wall when I sat on the toilet. The staff were okay, but I barely interacted with them. It’s also up a pretty steep hill, so be prepared for that. I understand it’s a traditional hotel focused on the hot springs, but if I return to the area I’d probably look for somewhere a bit nicer.

The rooms were roomy and comfortable, and I had a great dinner of fish and tempura. Breakfast was great too. The onsen allows tattoos during the late hours.

The price was good for the location and food. There’s an indoor onsen in the hotel and cheap, safe parking. The shopping street and convenience stores are only minutes away. Wifi is available in the lobby and the dinner and breakfast room.
