Oita Cathay Hotel

The hot spring water was absolutely amazing, which makes the rest such a shame. It was my first time at the facility, and some regulars' behavior and manners made me uncomfortable. There were customers with tattoos, and others who didn't seem considerate of anyone else using the place. I know the facility may have its reasons for how things are, but I'd appreciate it if they considered ways to make the environment more comfortable for guests.

The changing room could have been cleaner. I was surprised by how polite the man at reception was, though. I visited the hot spring for the day, and its chloride water kept me very warm. There was also a cold bath, so I could enjoy both hot and cold water.

The receptionist was really friendly, and even though the room was old, it had been cleaned well and was comfortable. But if you're coming for the hot springs, I'd suggest staying somewhere else. A local regular seemed to want to make me follow his own rules. After being told everything, I gave up on going in. I left feeling sad and really uncomfortable.

The location was great, with plenty of restaurants around, including the hotel restaurant, and the service was good. The heating was the one problem. It wasn't especially cold outside, but I was still cold all night, even with the setting at 30°C. It only started working around 5 a.m.
