Ooedo Onsen Monogatari Dogo

The resort is decent for the price, though nothing special. For the bus, head to the stop right in front of Starbucks at Dogo Onsen eki. If you'd rather not take it, go up the flight of stairs to the orange temple. From the carpark behind the temple, the resort is about 100 metres away.

There's nothing seriously wrong, but I left feeling vaguely dissatisfied. Everything is technically okay, and they try to cover all the basics, even leaving fresh amenities each day. They come in a plastic bag hung on your doorknob with bath towels, tea bags, and toothbrushes. Rooms have TVs, fridges, baths, and toilets, but the TVs and fridges are the smallest models possible, and everything has a faint tobacco smell. The balance between cost and quality just feels off. It's mediocre, and I can't really complain about any one thing, but the stay still felt a bit sad.

This is a good budget hot spring resort in Dogo Onsen, Matsuyama. It's near the Honkan and tram line, and the open-air bath has a great view over Matsuyama City. The buffet menu is fun and convenient when you're traveling with children. Definitely worth a stay.

The staff are so kind and enthusiastic, and the room was clean. You can borrow a yukata in several designs. The ground floor onsen is great and well equipped, with a nice open-air bath. The hotel sits at the top of the hill beside the Dogo onsen main building, but a free shuttle runs from the hotel to Dogo onsen and Dogo station every 30 minutes. I'd definitely stay again if I return to Matsuyama.
