Nigitatsu Kaikan

We stayed one night as a family of four in a second-floor room. It had a toilet and sink, while showers are in the baths. There are baths inside and outside the building, with access switching by time of day. The heater kept the room warm, and I slept without any trouble. We had dinner and breakfast, both served as course meals using ingredients from Ehime Prefecture. I told them beforehand about my allergies and intolerance to raw food, and they were very attentive to my menu. I especially liked the deep, natural flavor of the vegetables in the steamed fish broth, the Ehime sashimi, and the grilled Ehime vegetables served with beef. The inn is about a five-minute walk from Dogo Onsen Station. If you're booking, the website may offer a lower price than an accommodation reservation service, and it lists detailed options that the service doesn't show, so check the reservation information there. I speak a little Japanese and managed to book with Google Translate. The staff were very friendly, and I had no trouble using the facilities. Their warm hospitality made the stay a great experience. If you want a relaxing Dogo Onsen trip and a traditional Japanese ryokan, I highly recommend Umenoya Ryokan.

We chose Umenoya for a family trip before my daughter started working, and to give my wife time to unwind. It turned out to be a lovely, relaxing place, with a pleasant atmosphere and delicious food that was a treat for both the eyes and taste buds. The landlady and waitresses were heartfelt and kind. I’d recommend the inn to anyone planning a trip to Dogo Onsen.

We stayed one night with two meals on August 16, 2025. We were a couple in our 30s living in Osaka City, and the Sukiya room cost ¥88,000 during the Obon period. The food, space, comfort, and service were all top-notch, and the stay became a precious memory. I wish they’d include both breakfast and dinner, and I highly recommend them. It was lovely to wear a luxurious yukata and borrow geta for free on request before heading to the Dogo Onsen Main Building. We were very satisfied and felt the price was incredibly reasonable. It’s even cheaper after Obon. Bigger accommodations have their benefits, like more baths, larger baths, and a free drink bar, but Umenoya also has a slower pace and human warmth that you don’t get in larger places. It feels like a break from the city bustle, full of old-fashioned charm you won’t find in the large inns of the Reiwa era. They may not spend much on advertising, since searches for "Dogo Onsen Ryokan" bring up major inns at the top. I searched extensively before finding Umenoya, and if you come across it, I highly recommend it.

I've stayed at more than ten ryokans in Japan, and I knew right when I walked in that this place was great. The hot spring bath was perfect, and breakfast was delicious. Accommodation of this quality would have cost a lot more in other regions.
