The host was so kind, and checking in was easy. There’s no food, but I had a nearby shop and could use the fridge, microwave, toaster, and kettle. The location is right beside Temple 23 on the Henro route, with three nice rooms to choose from: two tatami rooms with futons and one with a Western bed.

The house was peaceful, clean, and cozy, just right for getting some rest during the Henro. Emi makes you feel welcome as soon as you arrive, and after a long day of walking, that warmth really mattered. Her cooking was wonderful, one of my best meals on the trail, and you can feel how much care she puts into it. It felt like staying at a friend’s home. Such a lovely stop on my pilgrimage, with great hospitality and food. I’m grateful I stayed here, and would gladly recommend it to other Henro walkers.

Aimi san was the highlight for me. She speaks fluent English, is a massage therapist and traveler, and was lovely to talk with. She also helped arrange some bookings. Sakura - An is an old, cluttered building with a cafe downstairs. I was there for one night on pilgrimage. There’s no food, though restaurants are close by. I skipped the shower because the onsen near the temple was good and convenient.

We visited Tempel 23 again at night, and the view was stunning. If you have the time and energy, it’s well worth a look. We stayed in August 2025 and had a great time. Our room was roomy, with comics tucked into the back corner, and it was well equipped. The bathroom was clean and worked fine, though it had no bathtub. The old house has a quirky, charming layout, but sound carries, so light sleepers might want earplugs. The AC kept us comfortable in the heat. Breakfast was delicious and reasonably priced. There are lots of restaurants and convenience stores around, and the friendly owner suggested a nearby dinner spot that was great. She also helped us reserve a place for the next day.

The owner speaks English really well and has time for a chat. The location is amazing, and both dinner and breakfast were great. A must if you need a night near Yakuo-ji.
