Polan no Fue

Polan no Fue was one of the highlights of our trip, and we’ll definitely return when we’re back in Aso. The breakfast was generous and delicious, and the hot milk is a must try. We found the local farm milk around Aso really tasty. After a little walk around the cottage, we enjoyed the clear, starry sky outside. The Wi-Fi in the living room was surprisingly good. The owner was so welcoming and caring. Before we arrived, he emailed to remind us to eat beforehand or bring food, since there’s no convenient store nearby. He explained how to get there and even parked our car when we arrived. The location is close to Kurokawa Onsen Village but quiet and private. Our clean, spacious cabin had two rooms, one bedroom and one like a living room, which was a lovely surprise. He had already warmed the beds with electric blankets, put a heating carpet in the living room, and prepared hot water. The cabin felt cozy, and the owner has put a lot of care into it, down to the decorative details. Don’t underestimate the beds, we had one of the most restful sleeps of our trip.

The breakfast was much better than I expected, and the bed warmers were great. The host was really nice and accommodating. When we were running late for check-in, he replied quickly and made arrangements for us. It’s a lovely place, and if you have a car, it’s a good base for Kurokawa and the surrounding area. I’ll definitely come back!

At night it gets pitch dark around the lodge, but the stars are visible across the sky. It felt like a perfect getaway, worth every cent. We were glad we chose this hidden gem instead of the expensive ryokan in central Kurokawa, though it’s quite far and only accessible by car. The owner went out of his way to make us comfortable, and the hospitality couldn’t have been better. The lodge is in good condition and well equipped with heaters, electric blankets, and a carpet. The room was the most spacious I’ve seen in Japan or Europe. Breakfast was a pleasant surprise, and the lobby interior was lovely with calming music in the background.

We were the only guests by chance, so we got to enjoy the hot bath in the woodshed. The hosts were very hospitable, and the cabins are comfortable. Love this place.
