Sunny Spot

The apartment was spotless, and the service was among the best I’ve ever had. They were incredibly helpful and really did their best to make our trip a great one.

I’m a smoker, so having a separate smoking room with a TV and coffee made the stay pleasant. My room was clean, comfortable, and well equipped, just as described: a double bed, no pajamas, and only a shower in the bathroom. One issue was that the air conditioning wasn’t running when I arrived, so I had to wait for the room to cool down.

The owner was very nice, and I’d definitely come back if I visit Tanegashima again. JAXA is close by, and we were told rockets can be seen from here during launches. The place felt so comfortable I could imagine living there. It had all the dishes we needed, plus a sponge and dishwashing liquid. There’s no bathtub, just a shower, but we went to a nearby hot spring.

The rooms have a charming look, and the owner is friendly. There’s even what looks like a homemade surfboard on display. It’s about a 10-minute drive from the town center, and a taxi costs around 2300 yen. The place is set up for longer stays, especially for people waiting for surf waves and cooking for themselves, but it works for other kinds of trips too. The kitchen has dishes, pots and pans, a stove, microwave, toaster oven, and refrigerator. There’s a shower room, but no bathtub.
