The breakfast was lovely, and the warm hospitality made this a stay I won’t forget. It’s my clear favorite among the hotels in the area. Seeing the place featured in travel magazines was cool too!

After a long, cold ride, the man had a hot bath ready for me, which was really nice. The room was a traditional Japanese guest room with a futon, TV, and table.
A very typical place, and so quiet.
It has a very traditional feel.
The inn has a peaceful atmosphere, and I had a really pleasant, relaxing stay. It’s old, as other people have mentioned, but clean and well cared for. Its historic charm more than makes up for its age, and I’m glad I stayed. I’d been a little concerned about the service after reading reviews, but communicating with the owner was no problem at all. At checkout, they showed me the antiques, let me listen to the vacuum tube radio that remains at the inn, and carefully explained Sakata’s history. I was very grateful for that. I hope someone takes over this historic inn and looks after it for future generations.
