Tanegashima Iwasaki Hotel

The location is great for a slow weekend, but the room had a lot of roaches. I know it’s an island and expected some bugs, just not that many. There’s no lunch provided and no CVS within walking distance. Taxis are hard to get too, since the island is short on taxis and vehicles due to the extra demand from the US base being built on Mage Island. Without a car, you’re basically without food.

It’s close to the space center, though the ferry to Kagoshima is still an hour’s drive away. The hotel is right by the beach, where the waves are gigantic, and the rooms are clean. Staff speak only Japanese, so be ready to use Google Translate.

There’s a pool and beach right outside, and the rooms are spacious. The hotel feels out of the way, but it’s really good and, in my opinion, the best in Tanegashima. I was a bit disappointed there wasn’t an onsen, though that may suit people who don’t like bathing with others.

The room was recently renovated, so it feels new, and I liked the terrace-side room. Everything was very clean and tidy. The restaurant is good too, making this a nice place to stay for a holiday.
