It takes a short uphill walk to get to Maiko Snow Resort, though that didn't take away from a really welcoming stay. On the way back to the lodge, you can slide down from the resort, which was fantastic. The space was cozy, breakfast was delicious, and the bath was relaxing. We also loved the adorable dogs.

We went in 2020, just before COVID, and our whole family loved the place. We're big dog lovers, so seeing the owners' dogs after a long day of skiing was the perfect end to the day. The owners knew a lot about dogs. Breakfast was delicious, and they were very accommodating to my vegetarian partner. This is an independent guesthouse, not a hotel. I think some of the negative reviews set hotel-level expectations too high. If that's what you want, choose a hotel instead.

The owners were friendly and helpful, and even offered breakfast for free. There was a room for ski gear, and the bedroom was clean and spacious. I stayed one night to snowboard at Maiko ski resort. I took a bus to the main hotel, then walked about ten minutes to the lodge. I'd love to stay here again next winter.

A few days before check-in, a family member died, so we asked to cancel for a full or partial refund. We provided everything we had, including a doctor's note and death certificate. The facility initially said the prepaid amount couldn't be refunded under its policy. We were already in pain from our loss, and the decision added a financial loss of more than $2,000. At the time, I felt the hotel had failed to uphold the hospitality a service business should show. After the property owner replied, I contacted Expedia customer service. They acknowledged their interpretation had been wrong and are now processing a full refund. I was also affected by what happened, and I sincerely apologize for the earlier one-star rating. I've changed it to five stars to show my appreciation for your understanding, and I'm sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you. I'm keeping my original review so readers can see what happened. I'm fully confident this property will be our first choice if we visit the area again.
