Ryokan Tanakaya

We chose Tanakaya for our first family trip, to celebrate my daughter's birthday, and it turned into a memory we'll treasure. I'd been curious about this old inn for a while. When I mentioned the birthday while booking, they surprised us with a gift, red rice, and even a dolphin on the menu because it's my daughter's favorite. We were touched by all the little details. The building has history, but inside it was lovely. Our room was roomy and spotless, with new toilets, air conditioning, and other amenities. The bath was spacious and relaxing too. The courtyard had birdsong and the sound of running water, which made it feel peaceful. Dinner and breakfast were delicious, generous, and beautifully presented. The chef's cooking was exquisite, and we both left happy in body and spirit. The staff clearly care about making guests feel special. I work in hospitality myself and came away with a lot to learn about what good hospitality means. I'd make time to come back, and I'd recommend this inn to others. ☆

There's a 200V EV charging point, so arriving in an electric vehicle is no problem. Since this isn't a temple lodging, it operates under the Inn Business Act, which may put some guests at ease.

I hurt my back, so the rides to and from Kuonji Temple for morning service, and during check-in and check-out, were a huge help. I think older guests could stay here comfortably too. The landlady and staff were warm and friendly, and the service was attentive. The whole building was spotless, and the bath was big and great. One thing to keep in mind: train times between the station and the inn may depend on other guests' schedules, so check directly with Tanakaya Inn. I've already decided I'll stay there again on my next trip to Mount Minobu.

Happy, the inn's mascot dog, was so cute 🐶. The owner and landlady were lovely and made us feel at home. We had a nice, relaxing bath, and both meals were tasty and beautifully served. The building is old and historic, but it's kept clean and in good shape.
