Ryokan Sakamotoya

We hadn't made a reservation, but the staff were friendly and helpful. I loved the place.

The dinner was delicious, and you can park right by the entrance. The building is historic and nearly 100 years old. It's worth coming to try.

If you like tatami rooms, this traditional Japanese-style building is a great fit. My room was spacious and had a balcony. The owners were welcoming and let us leave our luggage so we could travel light. The location is excellent: the boat station, cable car station, bus stop, and shrine are all within a five-minute walk. There's a local supermarket right next door with prepared foods, drinks, fruit, and fireworks, and prices here are incredibly reasonable for the area. The old building doesn't block sound very well, though there was little traffic at night. Being in the suburbs means insects are around, so whether that's a problem depends on your tolerance. There are no private bathrooms, just a large public bath, which I personally prefer because it's roomy and comfortable. You can open the door to the outside for ventilation and enjoy a soak with the cool sea breeze. The corridor between the room and bath isn't heated, so you can wear the provided shawl when heading over. The room has heating and a sink, so it isn't inconvenient.
