Matsuya Ryokan

The innkeepers have always been friendly, and I'd planned to come back every year after staying here for tournaments several times. This visit changed that. A group of guests, maybe a junior soccer club, had such poor manners that I won't stay here again. Noise carried everywhere because of the inn's layout. Doors kept slamming after 11pm, people shouted and made strange sounds in the hallway, calling out for someone, and the noise in their room went on past midnight. I couldn't sleep, even though I can usually put up with some noise. With an early tournament the next day, staying here was pointless. The rates have gone up, which I figured couldn't be helped, but the environment has got worse. I can't use this place before a tournament, so unfortunately I won't be back.

The young couple at reception, possibly husband and wife, were wonderfully helpful. After that, though, the hotel's convenience seemed to be imposed on us, and the woman in the dining room got quite angry. What sort of service was that? I won't return.

This place deserves 10 stars if that were possible. I expected the less expensive rooms to be small from the photos on Appli, but two people had plenty of space. For the price, it's amazing. The inn is about 100 years old and has a samurai-era atmosphere, which I loved as someone from Indonesia who's really interested in Japanese history. The proprietress and owner made me feel their hospitality even as a foreigner. If work weren't tying me down, I'd probably stay for a week 😂 Thanks for all your hard work, everyone! m(_ _)m

Everything was a letdown. The place smelled like cigarettes and didn't seem clean at all. If you come here, you'd be much better off staying at a Route Inn.
