Guest House Mori to Machi

The retro furniture gives the place a nice middle ground, neither too modern nor too old-fashioned. I especially liked the wooden fixtures in the entrance and the wood-wool cement board on the kitchen ceiling. The owners, a married couple, did the renovation themselves and clearly love architecture, so we hit it off right away. They kept interior costs down by using a lot of underlayment materials. The two-person room also has armrests at a comfortable height, a detail that feels true to old-fashioned architecture. Morimachi still has a lot of old buildings, and this guesthouse is one of them, brought back to life by the owners. I’d like to stay again once the nearby cafe and record store I’m involved in are finished.

The rooms are small, but they’re very clean and comfortable, with air conditioning. The shared bathroom, washroom, and toilet were spotless, and there’s a public bath nearby too. We were welcomed warmly by the lovely owner couple, and you can rent bicycles to get around town. There aren’t any convenience stores close by, so it’s a good idea to pick up drinks and other essentials at the station or along the main road. The guesthouse has opened in Mori-machi, the "Little Kyoto of Enshu."

The owners were really kind, and the inn had a relaxing feel to it. I stayed there with two friends, and we had a great time.

I’ve stayed here three times now, including last year and the year before, and it was fantastic again. The renovated old house has a wonderful atmosphere, and the owner is incredibly friendly. I’d definitely come back. Highly recommended!
