The location is a real plus: the main station is across the road and the main tourist sights are within a 2 km walk. Our small room was clean and comfortable, the public bath was as good as expected, and the complimentary breakfast was enjoyable as always. They also honored my online requests for two extra pillows and an XL samue. Pricing was good value, as usual. My wife and I stayed two nights starting 2024.10.30. I’d normally give a Route-Inn four stars, but I’m rating this Morioka Ekimae property three because I was overcharged. The night before checkout, I asked to leave at 11:00 instead of 10:00. The front desk said it would cost ¥1,000, which I was happy with, and I appreciated getting a quick, clear answer. I checked out at 10:46 the next morning and was charged ¥2,000. I thought I’d misheard, but after getting home I looked it up and found ¥1,000 was the correct fee. It wasn’t a large overcharge, but it went against the efficiency I like about this chain.

We picked this place for its affordable price and proximity to the JR train station, mostly using it as a stop on the way to or from nearby ski resorts. For the location, convenience, onsen, and acceptable room size, it’s good value for the money. This was my third or fourth stay, though my last visit was before covid. There was a nice surprise this time: some rooms had been renovated. The layout is more practical, with added hangers and furniture rearranged to open up space. The lighting is digital now, and you can check on the TV how many people are in the onsen before deciding when to go in.

We’ve stayed here several times and would choose it again on our next visit to Morioka. It’s just outside the JR station, handy for public transport, food, and shopping. The breakfast and onsen are good.

Check-in is at 15:00, but you can leave your luggage with the concierge beforehand. The hotel is clean and well organized, and really conveniently located across from Morioka station.

I stayed at Route Inn Morioka for five days, and the WiFi was the worst connection I’ve come across anywhere in Japan. I’d only recommend staying here if you have your own internet service.
