The room was clean, and the location has a couple of useful things nearby: Seseko Island is close, the aquarium is about 15 minutes away, and Lawson is across the road. Getting to Lawson is awkward, though, since the main highway has no nearby crosswalk. As for the stay, I found Marea Resort disappointing from the moment I arrived. It felt like an old motel, not a resort. The room smelled strongly, the doors opened straight outside, and there was no cleaning service. When I asked about fresh sheets and towels, the front desk told me we could wash our own. That was absurd, and I’ve never heard of a resort doing that. The office is only open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., so arriving after a late flight could be a problem. The amenities are very basic, and I wouldn’t recommend it for families with small children: there are steep stairs and no balcony or safe outdoor area.

The rooms were huge, with a view of the ocean, and it worked out great as a place to rest after diving next door. It felt more like an Airbnb than a hotel, but that was fine for what I needed. I’ll definitely come back.

At night, getting through the open entrance area was the worst part. Small caterpillars covered the floor on the way to the elevator and reception, and I had to hop over big bugs too. Some even came into the elevator with me. If you can’t handle insects, I wouldn’t recommend staying here. The location suited my plans and the room looked nice, but there was hair all over the tatami and floor, so I wasn’t sure how well it had been cleaned.

The Bento breakfast was great, and parking is free. It’s right across from Motobu Port, where you can catch the ferry to lejima island, and TI.Ocean, the dive shop, is next door. Churaumi Aquarium is nearby too. Recommended.

The room was new and clean, but I’m sorry to leave a bad comment because the internet was really bad. There was no connection at all, which also meant no Netflix. A staff member tried to help at night, but she didn’t know what to do either, and the server was still down.
