Tsubaki no Yado Yoshidaya

I was very happy with the staff’s hospitality, and the facilities were decent too.

The food was a highlight. Dinner came to my room, with a generous spread of seafood dishes made using ingredients from Murakami, Niigata. Everything was carefully prepared, delicious, and so plentiful. Breakfast was served privately in the room too, and felt luxurious. I’d visited Senami Onsen many times before, always staying at Shiomi-so. When I learned it had been acquired by the chain hotel O Monogatari, I decided to avoid it and try this inn instead. I hadn’t realized Senami’s hot spring area also extended inland, beyond the coast. This historic inn dates back to 1907. Its wooden buildings feel warm, and the atmosphere is peaceful. I visited during a holiday, but with only 15 rooms, it stayed quiet and I could really relax. I stayed in Sumire, a suite made up entirely of Japanese-style rooms, with a living room, bedroom, dining room, and semi-open-air bath. There’s a large public bath and an open-air bath, plus two private open-air baths, so I got to soak at my leisure. The inn has a distinctly Japanese feel, different from the seaside part of Senami Onsen. I’ll definitely come back next time I visit Senami.

There were so many dishes that we couldn’t finish them all, but the food was delicious. We had a spacious room and a really comfortable stay, and the facilities were well equipped and enjoyable to use. The family bath was nearby, so we were able to use it. It was a little sad that we couldn’t see the ocean.

I came for a day visit. You can’t see the sea, but the hot spring water was wonderful. The owner and the rest of the staff were so lovely with us. Even though we were only day visitors, they kept smiling and gave us such warm service. It really moved me. I’d like to stay overnight next time.
