Hotel Tae Windsor

The stay left me feeling pretty stressed. The host might offer rides to ski resorts or the onsen street for a fee, depending on their mood or availability, and you have to get friendly with them to find out what services are possible. It felt like everything, facilities and service, depended on the host’s preferences, with no consistent standards like you’d expect at regular accommodation. The rooms are upstairs on the second floor, with hardly any space to set things down. Rooms facing the driveway get noisy from snowplows between 3:30 and 5:30am. The other rooms had a low-frequency noise all day, as shown in the video, and the smell of diesel in my room made me dizzy. There’s one public onsen in the basement shared by all guests, with men using it for an hour and women the next. I felt unsafe using it. The shared living room is on the first floor. When I was quietly using it at 8pm, the host came in looking cold, and I didn’t know why.

The hotel has a lovely, homey feel, and the owners are very nice. There’s a bus stop right in front, with buses to the ski slopes for ¥500 per trip. For meals, ask the owners for recommendations. Nearby restaurants tend to be packed, but the owners can help by calling and booking you a table.

We had a great family getaway here. The hosts were really helpful, the food was delicious, and it’s a perfect base for snow and skiing. The beautiful powder was amazing! 😍❄️☃️

Worst BNB experience ever. There’s a tub, but it was always empty, so there was no bath for us. The heater was broken for four days, and they let a worker into our room without any advance notice. They were never helpful or available when we needed to get to the onsen st.
