Breakfast was a real highlight, and Shino made exceptional coffees. We felt warmly welcomed on our first afternoon and spent plenty of time talking through the mountain layout and lift passes for the next day. We travelled with our three teenage daughters and booked both the family room with a private bathroom and a double room. The family room was huge, and we probably could all have fitted in there, though the extra space was nice. Nona Madarao felt cosy, welcoming and comfortable. The hosts were friendly and knew their stuff, and it’s just a short trudge through the snow to the lifts. We’ve found our favourite Japow mountain and lodge.

We’re a family of five, and Nona’s felt like home. The chalet has been freshly renovated, with well-appointed amenities and a warm, inviting lounge and dining room. The honesty bar was a nice touch. We had breakfast cooked for us, which made it easy to get out to the ski fields early, and it was handy to have the option of dinner too. The gyoza were especially good. The lifts are a short walk away, there’s a convenience store across the road, and parking out front was easy. We had a great time and will definitely be back.

The self-serve snack bar and après-ski were lovely extras, and there was a good selection of card and board games for quiet evenings. Our room was roomy and comfortable, and the location and facilities were excellent. Nona had such a warm, family-friendly feel. We loved staying here and can’t wait to return. Highly recommend it!

The breakfast was hot and delicious. It rotated between scrambled eggs and sausages, French toast with stewed apples, fried egg with bacon and hash brown, and an omelet with ham. There was toast, cereal, milk, jams and spreads to help myself to, plus complimentary coffee and tea available all day. The rooms were comfortable, and the facilities stayed extremely clean and tidy. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and went out of their way to make the stay a great one. I’d stay here again without hesitation.

The home-cooked breakfast each morning was just right before heading out, simple and delicious. It’s also close to the lifts and within walking distance of the village and restaurants. This was my third trip to Madarao, and easily the nicest place I’ve stayed. Some other lodges I’ve tried over the years have felt tired, with musty bathrooms, old beds and that dated ski-lodge feel. This place was the opposite after its recent renovation: fresh, clean and comfortable, with no musty smells, good beds, warm rooms and proper bathrooms. Easy and relaxed. I’ll be back for sure. Thanks, Team Nona, for a great stay!
