The shared areas on the second and third floors include a kitchen and laundry, while the rooms themselves are simple but cozy. Maguro Building has a great location, contactless check-in, and unusual views over the tuna fishing port. If you’re a backpacker or nature lover looking for cultural exchange, it’s a great option. It felt like more than somewhere to sleep, and if you’re lucky, you might meet the lovely owner. Enjoy your stay!
Self check-in was straightforward, and Maguro Building by WHY Kumano made a convenient base for exploring the area. It’s a short walk from both the fish market and the station.
The staff were especially helpful when we accidentally left some of our things behind in the room. They contacted us and then mailed them to our next stop on our Japan trip. Our private room was spacious and cozy, with a great view of the fish market. The hostel is right in central Kii-katsuura, and the whole stay was excellent. I’d highly recommend it.
The kitchen is well equipped, everything is clean, and the beds are comfortable. Our rooms were spacious enough, and we had no problems during our stay. Maguro bldg has private bath facilities, while the other building has shared ones. It’s next to the fish market, which is closed on Saturdays and Wednesdays, so keep that in mind if you’re hoping to sleep in. The train station, restaurants, bars, and Lawsons convenience store are all a short walk away. We’d read some mixed reviews beforehand, but we were happy here and recommend it.
The location is pretty good, close to the maguro auction and the market. The room is an older tatami room, but it’s been renovated well and has a very comfortable futon. The shared spaces are really nice, both in this building and in the one near the station.
