Hotel Weekly Matoba

The food is self-service, and I thought it was awful. I’m here for work, but I wouldn’t pay to stay. And just like the unit bath wall says, pulling the plug brings up a sewage smell.

I was there in February. The room drain was plugged, so I didn’t have a sewage smell, but the air freshener they used to cover it was overpowering for me. It got into my clothes and belongings, and I couldn’t stand it.

I remember the dining setup most clearly. There was a main building and a smaller one beside it where people ate and hung out. It had lots of manga and other things, and at certain times meals were buffet-style. Back then, some underage people at the driving course would drink, smoke, and party pretty wildly. 😓 I wanted to avoid them, so I went for dinner early, around 6, even within the meal hours. 😅 I stayed for a few weeks around 2012 during the training camp at what was then Nagai Driving School, now Matsuki Driving School Nagai Branch. The train tracks were right next door, and from my room I could watch trains pass over the snow and see the nearby school. The room was cramped, with the bed and unit bath taking up most of it. The hallway, desk, and TV stand felt like a bit of a waste of space. There were a few coin-operated washers and dryers, and that area was a little dirty. Otherwise I didn’t notice any particular smell then, so I got the impression the problems in other reviews had gotten worse later. I also vaguely remember some employees with disabilities who seemed to have trouble walking. Some rooms had quiet hair dryers, and when I changed rooms I’d swap the dryer in the new one for one of those.

There wasn’t a front desk. The guest register and key were left on a desk, so I went straight to my room; the manager came by separately to collect the register and lodging fee. The one inconvenience was having to share the refrigerator.
