The staff made the stay easy, they were really friendly and quick to help. It’s a Japanese-style place, so you sleep on a futon instead of an American-style bed. The rooms are a little small, but the price is good. The shared bathroom and shower seemed to be managed by the staff, who let you know when they’re open. I had a really nice time here.
I’d happily come back. The inn is an easy five-minute walk from the station and close to Nagaoka’s bar district, which was the reason for my visit. It has an old-fashioned look that added to the charm, though the inside was well cared for and the bathroom and toilet were very clean. My room had space for 10-12 tatami mats and cost 4,500 yen including tax, without meals. There was a fridge, TV, and air conditioning.
The cats are the best part, they’re so cute. It’s a quiet, older inn right by Nagaoka Station, and the owners are really kind.
It’s a good-value place with a low price, an easy walk to the station, and facilities that are simple to use. The room felt a little old, but it was fine for sleeping. There was a fridge and an outlet by the bed, plus a microwave in the shared area. A no-smoking sign is posted throughout the building, and I didn’t notice any cigarette smell. For the shared bath, you flip a sign to show when you want to use it. Towels are stacked in the changing room, then you put them in the towel rack after use. The tub is about the size of one at home and can be reheated, so a cold morning wasn’t an issue. Disposable toothbrushes were available, which was handy. Breakfast could be added for an extra charge. It’s under a 10-minute walk from Nagaoka Station. You leave your key at the front desk when you go out, so it seems like an early morning check-in may be possible. Trucks passing on the street gave the building a small jolt now and then, but it didn’t bother me.
The landlady was so kind and pleasant, she really helped me unwind after my business trip. It was raining, but I could get to "Aore Nagaoka" without getting wet, and I saw the beautiful illuminations she’d told me about. I’d like to try a meal here next time. It’s an old inn, and the room had that old-inn feel, but it was clean and very pleasant. The price was reasonable, and the Wi-Fi worked fine. I was also glad the TV had BS channels. The stairs are steep, which could be tricky with a lot of luggage, but the landlady who showed me to my room kindly offered to carry some.
