Hotel Jal City Nagasaki

We stayed three nights in November and found the room comfortable and a reasonable size. Lots of friendly staff gave good service, including calling a taxi for us to the express bus terminal. The location worked well, with restaurants and convenience stores close by, and the tram, buses, and shopping area just a 3-5 minute walk away.

The clean, well-kept room and smooth check-in were a positive start. The younger woman at reception made an effort to answer our questions despite the language barrier. But the parking setup and the charges at the affiliated carpark were unclear, as other guests have also mentioned. When I tried to get a breakdown of the charges, a senior front desk staff member shouted at me, gesturing and pointing in an abusive way while I was calmly trying to understand. I was stunned by the encounter. That kind of service is unacceptable and so far from the Japanese hospitality standards I associate with the country. Sadly, I now connect the JAL hospitality brand with this “once-in-a-lifetime” experience.

A great base for the other history we came to see, which was really interesting. The rooms were great, and the staff were friendly and helpful. It's a four-minute walk from the airport bus.

We stayed one night after spending time in Chinatown, which is right where the hotel is. Its location was the best part and had everything we wanted nearby. The room was large by Japanese standards, the food was decent, and the price was reasonable.
