Mezame Hostel

The location is handy for major tourist spots, either by a moderate walk or a quick tram ride. For the right price, it's a solid place to stay, even if it's nothing especially special. My stay at Mezame Hostel was good overall. Check-in and check-out were simple, and I never interacted with staff; I only saw the cleaning workers during the day. The bed was clean, and my big backpack fit neatly into the pod's storage cutout, though there was no large locker for suitcases. The pod ran a bit warmer than I like, but I slept fine. Bathrooms were clean and comfortable, and the women's dormitory felt safe and well maintained. There is no elevator, so expect stairs depending on your room. On the second floor, you need to remove your shoes and switch to plastic slippers. That's common in Japan, but the ones provided were very large and awkward, and I wish they had different sizes. They provided one towel for each night, so I got three towels, three washcloths, and three toothbrushes, which I appreciated. The main downside was that I couldn't store luggage after check-out.

Check-in is at 3pm, and the girls' dormitory is a nice option for staying in Nagasaki. The bathroom and shared areas were fine and clean. Washing costs 200yen, and the dryer is 100yen for 30mins. Parking took a bit of checking: one car park was around 2200yen for about 12hours, from 8am to 740pm. I then tried another around 750pm to 4pm, which was about 1400yen. Be sure to check the parking details carefully.

The facilities were clean, with a cozy lounge and rooms. There were two shoe dryers and several umbrellas available to use, and self check-in was easy.

The rooms are good, but at exactly 10:00 am the staff come in and start dragging beds across the floor to change the sheets. Don't expect to sleep in. I don't understand why they can't do it at midday when check-in isn't until 16:00.
