Hoshino Resorts KAI Nagato

The private onsen on the balcony was a favorite, and the rooms were beautiful, very clean, and had great in-room amenities. We also enjoyed the property’s restaurant, café, travel library, and main onsen. The staff were incredibly kind and patient with us since we don’t speak Japanese, and they always made us feel welcome. I’d highly recommend it to foreign travelers wanting a Japanese countryside stay at a hotel that puts real care into local craftsmanship, food, and culture.

The staff were a real highlight. We appreciated their English explanations and attention to detail, and found the information about onsen history and etiquette valuable. The facilities were immaculate, and I stayed in one of the coolest rooms I’ve ever seen. It was a fantastic first onsen experience, definitely worth the trip a little off the usual US tourist route!

The hotel is beautiful, right by the riverbanks, and the staff are welcoming and speak some English. The food looks nicely presented and tastes good. Our beds were roomy and comfortable. I’d love to come back and try other KAI resorts.

We came as a group of 11 for a birthday celebration, with breakfast and dinner included. During check-in, we told reception that the birthday lady doesn’t eat beef, and the staff said they’d inform the restaurant. But on the second night at dinner, we were told they couldn’t change the beef course and could only let us know when a dish contained beef. We were very disappointed with the service level!!!
