Ryokan Otani Sanso

The restaurant food was great, and breakfast had a wonderful spread of Japanese and Western options, including pastries baked on site. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, and well equipped. There’s a huge bath area with several pools and a large outdoor bath. The hotel sits in a lovely forest setting, with a river running through it, waterfalls, and the soothing sound of the water.

The breakfast buffet especially impressed me, and the rooms, food, and hotel facilities were all very good. It was my first visit to Yamaguchi, and the staff made me feel at home with their professionalism and warm smiles. I’d definitely recommend the hotel to my friends.

We really enjoyed our stay, especially the friendly staff, delicious meals, peaceful setting, and beautiful onsen. The western-style rooms could use newer equipment, though. I’d suggest choosing a Japanese-style room.

We’ve stayed here several times, and it’s pure bliss. It’s one of our three favorite ryokans in Japan. There’s a choice of rooms, including some with a private onsen, plus lovely indoor and outdoor onsens and rotenburo for soaking and unwinding. The hotel is beautifully arranged with water and plant features, right beside a river that’s great for a relaxing walk or even some fishing. Service is excellent, the meals are beautiful, and there’s a gift shop and evening entertainment in the lobby.
