Sea Breeze 1987

I liked it so much that I stayed an extra week. The place is peaceful and quiet, with a beautiful ocean view. The owner even drove me nearly two hours so I could catch the Shinkasen train. What an amazing hidden gem.

Waking up to the ocean view was lovely, and the spot itself is cool. But even though the associated restaurant stayed open until 10 pm, we couldn’t order any food there at 6:30 pm, which was disappointing. The surroundings need cleaning too. There’s rubbish from the property and washed up on the beach. Maybe not all of it belongs to them, but it still reflects on the place. Keeping the beach clean would show better care and values.

We chose this accommodation based on its description, but the stay was nowhere near what we expected. The listing said the kitchen had an oven, so we brought food to cook in one. There was no oven, and we ended up throwing the food away. That was really frustrating. The room was also dirty: there were around ten flies, including some trapped between the beds and in the kitchen drawers, cobwebs on the ceiling, and visible dust behind the beds. The utensils and dishes weren’t clean, and the towels had visible stains. Worst of all, there were cockroaches inside. One ran across the floor beside me while I was sitting at the table. That night we were too disgusted to sleep on the futon as planned, so we used the bunk beds because we were afraid insects might crawl on us. In the morning, I stepped onto the balcony and immediately saw another cockroach running toward me. The condition of the room caused us stress and discomfort throughout the stay. Basic cleaning, inspection, and pest control should be in place before guests arrive.

The room was cozy and charming, with a stove for cooking. It wasn’t the most modern, but it was comfortable for our one-night stay, and parking out front was plentiful. The whole place had a nice, snug feel. I didn’t get to try the hotel restaurant, though the atmosphere looked great, and I’m sure the food is good. The off-season price was very affordable, though I imagine it costs a little more in summer. We were passing through Yamaguchi Prefecture and stopped for a night in the off season. After our long drive, we arrived late, but the man working there greeted me warmly and was very helpful. I was grateful that he understood our situation. The ocean view was beautiful even in winter, and listening to the sea at night felt magical. I woke up surprised at how close the beach was. I can only imagine how lovely it is in summer with the sun shining. I’d absolutely make a trip back and stay again.
