Hotel S-plus Nagoya Sakae

The rooms are spacious for the price, the cleaning is good, and breakfast offers food from several cuisines. I could imagine coming back in summer, when the AC works. Winter, though? I can’t recommend it to anyone used to sleeping in a cool room. The heating is central. The hallways were kept at 28°, and staff told us there was no way to cool the room because the windows don’t open. Who sleeps comfortably in a 26° room?

The rooms were beautiful, probably the nicest I’ve seen in Japanese three- or four-star hotels. You can hear a little noise from the corridor, but not much, and the window didn’t seem to open. Some amenities might not be in the room, but you can get them free from the lobby stand. It takes two subway stops to get to Nagoya station, then about five minutes on foot. From the hotel you can also get to the Science museum and Art museum quickly, and the zoo is on the same subway line. The Aquarium, Legoland, and Railway museum are far away, but those places are a long way out anyway, so that’s not the hotel’s fault. The staff were friendly and helpful.

The rooms and service were nice, and I have nothing to complain about. It’s in the city center, though a little far from the station. Whether that’s a problem depends on how much you like walking.

It’s an average hotel in a very good part of Nagoya, near Sakae Station. You get no frills, and during the Japanese Grand Prix especially, I wouldn’t expect too much from a Best Western chain. It was enough for me. A couple of room design choices were odd. There’s only a curtain to stop water from the bathroom sink splashing onto the nearest bed. The elevator also always stops at the lobby, and you can’t change that. It can get annoying if you’re staying more than one night.
