Hotel Shinsuien

The place wasn’t good, and the hotel staff were too rude. I’ll never stay here again.

I was grateful I could stay so reasonably even though Nagoya had figure skating and Korean wave events at the time. The area is residential and very quiet, and the hotel is less than a five-minute walk from Atsuta Station, depending on the traffic lights. Somehow, it feels a bit like an extension of a traditional inn. I booked three nights mainly to use the large men-only public bath, but after I used it the first night, I was told it was out of order and couldn’t use it again. That’s a big minus. Breakfast on checkout day was also canceled for some reason, and they gave me a rice ball bento instead. Another minus.

I slept comfortably and peacefully in this older hotel, and there was a parking lot and a large public bath. I didn’t run into any other guests. The coin laundry claim is a bit misleading, since there’s just one washer and one dryer. There aren’t vending machines or anything like that on site. Restaurants, convenience stores, and Atsuta Shrine are all within walking distance, which is handy. I needed a room at short notice and booked only an hour before arrival. Maybe the room had been renovated to some extent, because it had an auto-lock.

It was cold in the room even with the air conditioner on, so I wished I’d brought warmer loungewear. The room itself was spacious and worth more than the price. There were lots of star-shaped glow-in-the-dark stickers on the walls. Strange, but cute. The large public bath is men-only, and I wish women could use it too.
