I was traveling alone from Mexico and used Nagoya as a base for day trips. Meitetsu Inn Nagoya Nishiki was cheap and well placed, but I wouldn’t stay here again. It’s around a 25-minute walk to JR Nagoya Station, and restaurants, shops, Donki, Nagoya Tower, and convenience stores like Daily Yamazaki, FamiMa, and 7/11 are only 3-5 minutes away. My room had the view shown in the attached photo. In the afternoon there were free drinks and soups, including coffee, tea, water, miso, and consomme. The front desk also had plenty of amenities. Breakfast was included, so I can’t complain about the price, but it was only okay, with limited choices in a crowded, tiny space. The room was the smallest of my 22-day Japan trip, and even alone I found it hard to move around with a carry-on and backpack. The hotel seems geared toward smokers: there’s a smoking room by the entrance, and the floors with the laundry and ice machines smelled strongly of smoke. There are only two lifts, which can get crowded, especially with the Japanese business travelers it caters to. The bed felt as hard as a rock. I managed to sleep, but woke up sore, and the pillows didn’t help.

The station is close, the room wasn’t dated, and the staff were nice. It’s a typical Japanese hotel room size. Breakfast being included was a plus.

The staff were accommodating and usually available at reception. They kept our luggage for a few days during a gap in bookings, which is a big plus if you’re taking intercity trips and using Nagoya as a base. They can also arrange Yamato luggage forwarding; for next-day hotel-to-hotel transfers, set it up in the morning or before noon. Breakfast was filling, and there was free coffee in the lounge in the afternoons. Some rooms, perhaps on the higher floors, felt dated and needed a little maintenance. We had two bookings with a gap between them. The bathroom in the first, lower-floor room was cleaner, and the second room on a higher floor felt older. Getting to the hotel involves a bit of a walk from the elevators at Hisayaodori / Sakae subway station. It’s in Nagoya’s bar and drinking area, so people unused to seeing drunk office workers sprawled on the streets might feel uncomfortable walking back from Donki.

Pretty dingy and quite noisy. The worst 3-star hotel I’ve stayed in in Japan.

The location worked well, within walking distance of lots of important spots in Nagoya, and the price was good value. This is a typical Japanese business hotel. My room was small, just enough for one person, but clean, well maintained, and had a private bathroom. Some rooms face a wall, so try for one with a view. The staff were very friendly and polite, and the buffet-style breakfast included in the price was pretty decent. I liked my stay and recommend it.
