Nagoya Katei Miyoshi

Really great spot!

The meals were a real highlight, from the juicy meat and flavorful sashimi to the filling adult course. My wife, who grew up in the Tokai region and is particular about eel, was very happy with the Nagoya-style hitsumabushi. We also enjoyed the chilled “Hana” and “Tsuki” sake, served in different glasses. Breakfast had grilled fish, doteyaki, red miso, and rice you could serve yourself. Our elementary school kids got course-style children's meals, and there was enough rice ready for the preschoolers too. The staff made the stay feel special from the start. The landlady welcomed us, carried our heavy bags without being asked, explained the room, and adjusted to our schedule. Dinner was in a private room with chairs set up for the children. Even when we planned to take a taxi back, the inn arranged a shuttle and the friendly driver took us to the station. It’s surprisingly close to Nagoya Station for a traditional inn. The building is compact, with no garden or view, and its windows are discreetly screened with frosted glass that looks like washi paper. Inside, there’s a small lobby with a table decorated in Lego, which kept our kids busy after our Legoland visit. Our room was neat and Japanese-style, with futons already laid out because we arrived late. The indoor and outdoor baths are modest in size, separated by glass doors, and felt elegant. The place was attentive throughout, and we left very satisfied. We’d like to come back on another family trip to Nagoya. Thank you to everyone.

The food was the big draw for us. The sashimi and fruit were especially tasty, and seemed to use good ingredients. We were pleasantly surprised to find Nagoya dishes like hitsumabushi, doteni, and kishimen, and the children's lunch and dinner sets were good too. The staff were wonderful and welcoming. Just don’t expect too much from the hot springs.

The bath setup may be tricky if you have difficulty walking. The elevator only reaches the fifth floor, while the baths are on the sixth, so using the bath in your room may be easier. Families are considered too, with a footrest by the sink and foaming body soap for children in the bath. I came from outside the prefecture and really appreciated the shuttle to Nagoya Station since I didn’t know the area. The food was excellent, and I left completely full.
