Nagoya Travellers Hostel

This was my first dorm-style stay in Japan, and I had a really good time. The staff were welcoming and accommodating. I stayed in a women's room for up to six people, with comfortable, roomy beds, and it was cleaned daily. There were plenty of showers and toilets. Laundry was available, and you could hang clothes on the rooftop. I also liked the cute common room, especially its little tatami area. During summer, guests can try on a yukata for free inside the hostel.

The location is central, just a two-minute walk from Sakae station exit 13, with restaurants and a convenience store nearby. It's handy for nightlife too, since you can walk back whenever you like. The neighborhood has lots of hostess bars, which might be surprising at first, but nobody bothers you and it feels safe. The dorms are comfortable and clean, with new furniture, and the price includes a simple breakfast. Tea and coffee are available, and the staff are always ready to help. In the evenings, people often play board games in the lounge and socialize. Laundry facilities are there, and you can dry your clothes on the rooftop terrace.

It's a new, spacious, clean place, and well organized, with soap and shampoo provided, plenty of showers and toilets, no curfew, 24/7 showers, and free breakfast. The rooftop is clean and pleasant. It does feel a bit like a factory, though, and doesn't have the cozy guesthouse atmosphere some people want. It's in Nagoya's red district, so expect noise very late at night, or early in the morning. It could use a little more coziness to make it feel special.

The staff were welcoming, and the beds were clean and comfortable, but there was dampness in parts of the room and in the shower I used. Maintenance could be better. I spent one night there with five other people. The area feels a bit odd at night, with lots of clubs next to the hostel. It's close to Sakae subway station, two stops from Nagoya's main station, and there are plenty of restaurants nearby.
