I’m visiting Okinawa from Singapore for the first time and have been using the Yui mono-Rail every day since arriving on Monday, 16 February 2026. Omoromachi Station has been the most interesting one for me, perhaps partly because my visit coincides with the upcoming Emperor's birthday. Inside the station, I saw a beautiful display of royal miniatures (see photo herein). There was also a community piano on site, something I hadn’t noticed at the other stations. I got off there today to visit the nearby Okinawa Prefectural Museum.

It’s a tiny monorail station. Okinawa has very few public transport options, and this is pretty much one of them.

This is a convenient, spacious area and a good place to stay. There’s a duty-free shop with a souvenir store, and some Japanese nationwide companies have offices here.

The station is clean and well maintained, with lifts and ticket machines that work in English. Covered walkways connect it to the nearby DFS shopping mall. I visited in September 2024.

You can walk to most places from the monorail stations, at least to some extent, and the monorail is a good way to get from the airport into the city since traffic won’t slow you down. If you’re going to a friend’s place in town, taking it can save both of you time sitting in traffic. The system is convenient, though limited. For a day or two, a 24-hour ticket for 700 yen may be useful. It lasts 24 hours from purchase and allows unlimited trips during that time. For a station-to-station ticket, keep hold of it until you leave your destination station. You use it both when entering and exiting, and if you’ve lost it, you’ll be charged the maximum fare.
