Akane-yado

The house and the view were beautiful, but what we remember most is how Joe helped us when our rental car broke down. We had a flat on the way there, no spare tire, and a long delay while trying to sort out the tow and a frustrating situation with the rental company. They wanted to cancel our contract and take the car back, which could have left us stranded in Asahikawa with nowhere to sleep, since our booking was in Furano. Joe spoke with the company and complained to them at length on our behalf. He was kind, flexible, and incredibly helpful throughout. He could communicate with me in English, extended check-in until 10:30 pm, and even after we arrived later than that, helped by calling tire companies and a tow truck. We were so grateful.

We found this countryside bed and breakfast very pleasant, with striking mountain views all around. The owner was welcoming, and breakfast was good. The rooms are simple, but have what you need.

The guesthouse has a lovely countryside setting, and the shuttle to and from the ski field worked perfectly. Joe was very friendly and helpful, and his wife made delicious food at a fair price. Inside, it’s cozy and stylish, with tasteful jazz playing in the shared space. There’s plenty to see nearby too. After skiing, the Onsen in the prince hotel was a treat, and the ski area itself is great. A place I’d recommend.

At night, we walked a little away from the lights and saw a sky full of stars, including the Milky Way and shooting stars. It was breathtaking. Dinner was another highlight, fresh and delicious, with what seemed like a mix of Japanese and Western dishes made with Hokkaido ingredients, I presume. The melon afterward was sweet and refreshing. The sunset colors were amazing too. I was unsure about sharing a bathroom, and the room under the roof was small and a bit hot. Still, staying here was a great experience. It’s a little inconvenient being far from downtown, but my family and I really enjoyed the place and I’d recommend it to friends visiting Furano. Thank you! From a guest from Taiwan.
