One Suite THE GRAND

Ken, the waiter at the piano bar, deserves a special mention. He took such good care of us and was thoughtful about my partner’s birthday. We had a wonderful stay, and I’m grateful to him and the rest of the hotel team for being so kind.

We ate at the hotel restaurant one evening and had breakfast there each day. The food was outstanding, with lots of variety and real thought behind each course. Even breakfast changed every day. The restaurant team were welcoming and helpful, and they handled our dietary requirements with care. The hotel itself is stunning, very clean, and full of thoughtful details. Our room was fantastic, just as we’d imagined, and the service from the friendly, helpful staff was outstanding. The setting was tranquil, with great views and local attractions a reasonable drive away. We’d highly recommend both the hotel and its restaurant.

A big thank you to Mr Aizono Tsuyoshi, who caught bugs for us several times and stayed cheerful throughout. All the staff were kind and incredibly helpful, and made our stay wonderful. We loved the delicious food and impeccable service at the hotel restaurant. Having breakfast with that amazing view of the Okinawa sea will stay with us as one of the most unforgettable parts of our trip. Thank you for looking after us. We’ll plan another visit to One suit The Grand soon.

I’m torn about this stay. The location, spa, comfort, food quality, and kind staff were all special, and the property is cared for down to the smallest details. The staff were courteous and professional, and the cooking was refined. Still, several things affected my impression, especially with an international clientele in mind. Our three dinners had the same first and second courses for the first two nights. We had to ask for a menu change, which they did provide, but at a place of this caliber I expected meals that felt more surprising and exciting. The ingredients were fresh and clearly high quality, but the experience didn’t quite deliver that. Small meal changes also came with a charge, even a refill of a little cup of delicious soup, perhaps 100 ml. The price of the stay was certainly high, and I felt that kind of charge was unexpected given the overall cost. We also struggled to communicate in English. The staff were kind, and modern IT tools are available, but language still became a barrier I wouldn’t expect here. As a smoker, I was also disappointed by the designated smoking area. I accept that smoking belongs in a designated spot, but this was a small shelter outside, tucked behind plants between a wall or window and a perforated brick wall, less than 50 cm apart, with no bench or chair. I understand Japan has a particular attitude toward tobacco, but for a place with international guests, it would be nice not to make smokers feel punished. One more thing felt uncomfortable. We had declined bed turn-down at check-in, apparently because of a language misunderstanding. At 7:30 PM, while we were showering with music on, a staff member came into the room and kept saying “excuse me.” I understand that no answer to a knock might suggest the room is empty, but once the door was open and the music and shower were audible, they should have closed it and left. So, for me, this really is a mixed review. There’s plenty to like, but some details could be improved, perhaps from my cultural point of view. Thanks for the experience, but I can’t give it five stars. Arigatou.
