Sparky’s House

It’s basically a hostel charging upscale hotel prices for Japan. The walls are paper-thin, and some rooms have AC that doesn’t work. It’s fixed at 75 degrees, about as hot as it was outside, and didn’t cool the room. Staff were barely around to help, and they tried to charge extra for everything, even bikes or storing luggage for a few hours. They were incredibly unhelpful, and the owner seemed to be trying to grab as much cash as possible while providing as little as possible. “Breakfast” was bread, butter, and jam. Come on. They charged over $200 a night for a $40 experience. I’d save the money, stay in the port town, take the ferry each day, and book a real hotel.

Naoshima can be hard to book accommodation on, so this is a good option. We especially liked the e-bikes available to rent on site, the location near the port and village, and the strong water pressure in the bathrooms. Sparky’s is clean and comfortable, and makes getting around the island easy.

I stayed with my parents this past week. My father misunderstood the booking and thought he’d reserved two rooms for three adults, when he’d actually rented one room for all three of us. Even so, we had a great stay. The room was spacious and lovely, the bed cozy, with a good mattress and amazing duvet. Everything felt quite new, clean, and neat, and both the bathroom and shower were great. We also rented electric bikes. My father has limited mobility because of his age. Sparkys is near the pier, but he couldn’t walk there, and both taxis in town were already booked for the whole day. Someone was very kind and came to pick us up at the pier. Everyone treated us so nicely. We’ll never forget I and Paty. Thank you for your love and kindness. If I come back to Naoshima, I’ll stay there again.

We loved our stay at the hotel ;) Everything was amazing, clean, and looked after with so much care. The service was attentive and kind, and the place felt comfortable in every detail. The location was practical, and bikes were available to rent. The towels smelled lovely, and there were plenty of personal care products as well as water, tea, coffee, and other food items. We’ll be back and highly recommend it. Thank you ;)
