HOTEL ROCCO - Adults Only

We were unsure about trying a love hotel, but after one night at Hotel Rocco – Adults Only in Nara, we were pleasantly surprised. We’ve become a bit of fans. It’s clearly set up with couples in mind, with discreet, playful extras, though you don’t have to use them. Anyone wanting a quiet, comfortable room with plenty of space and a whirlpool can enjoy it too. Our room was spotless and much bigger than expected, with a whirlpool and its own TV, a large modern shower, and another TV by the bed. There was a free karaoke machine, lots of DVDs, and various toys, some complimentary and some for purchase. The toiletries included hand and face cream, shaving foam, toothbrushes and hairbrushes. For this price range, the amenities were a real surprise. Booking on Hotels.com was straightforward, and reception was friendly. The staff member spoke a little English and explained the basics clearly. One thing to know is that the door locks from outside when you enter. To get out, press #9 to contact reception. You need to register there every time you leave and later come back. Bring everything you’ll need, like suitcases, snacks and drinks, into the room before the door locks.

The room and bathroom were clean, and the complimentary meals tasted good enough. Still, I won’t stay here again. The website and room both showed a notice about Wi-Fi, but there was no password anywhere, so I had to ask at the front desk. Cleaning staff also forgot to replace the men's pajama bottoms. Breakfast was supposed to have two Japanese and two Western options, but I couldn’t find a menu. When I asked, they said there wasn’t one, so I didn’t know how to choose. I got fed up and ordered one of each style, but then they kept calling to ask me to choose between Japanese and Western.

A nice enough hotel at a reasonable price, tucked away in an inconspicuous spot. I’d recommend it.
