Shisui, A Luxury Collection Hotel, Nara

We saw plenty of deer on our morning walk, and it was easy to continue on to Todaiji Temple and the National Nara Museum after breakfast. The breakfast itself was refined and delicious, and we took one last soak in the outdoor bath before checking out. We started with a pleasant taxi ride from JR Nara station. At check-in, Yamada san told us the hotel used to be the Nara Governor’s official residence, which made our stay feel special. We walked to Kasugataisha Shrine after checking in. It was a long walk, but we enjoyed it, and the shrine had incredible energy. After dinner, we relaxed in the Japanese-style outdoor bath in our room. The location is superb, with many famous Nara sights within easy walking distance. The hotel makes good use of its historic property and takes good care of guests. It’s worth arranging a one-night stay here as part of a Kansai trip.

The service was top notch, and every staff member I met was excellent. The whole complex and our room were impeccable. It’s a beautifully appointed place that brings modern design together with the heritage, and it’s about a 15-minute walk from Kintetsu Nara station. Breakfast was nicely presented and Japanese style. There’s an exclusive onsen, but it costs extra. It would be even better if all guests could use it without a charge. I’d still highly recommend staying here. It adds a lot to the experience of this historic town.

The hotel’s history was a big part of what we loved, and the service was top notch. They helped us arrange a tour for the next day, plus a last-minute restaurant booking and taxi. Really grateful for the attention to detail. There was free-flow champagne from 5pm to 7pm every day, with light snacks. What a wonderful hotel. Thank you so much.

We stayed three nights and didn’t want to leave. The room had a serene view that suited its calm atmosphere, and the bed was very comfortable. The service was excellent, and the fine amenities were a delight for all the senses. I only wish the body lotion were available to buy. We’ll definitely come back.
