Pension Manbo

We found the place the owner suggested for water play, a spot that apparently only locals know about. The water was too cold for our child, just as the owner had warned, so we couldn't play in it, but the recommendation was still very helpful. We stayed as a family of three with our two-year-old, and had a lovely time. There's a kids' play area in the dining room, so we could play there before and after meals. The food was delicious, and we appreciated how kindly the owner talked with our restless, noisy child while serving us. This will be our favorite guesthouse in Nasu, and we'd like to return. There are no hairdryers in the rooms or private bathrooms. You can borrow one from the front desk and return it after use. A note about the flags in the kids' meal rice: one Google review mentioned that a flag wasn't Japanese. It just happened that our meal came with two Japanese flags and one Brazilian flag. There was no particular meaning to it.

It was a little pricey, and I definitely wouldn't stay here again. While we were waiting for breakfast, it seemed there were no other guests in the rooms, so we looked around, and they didn't seem clean or tidy. To this day, whenever I see the towel we were given at check-in, I wonder how this could happen. It's become a funny story in our family, but my friends were surprised too. We stayed here with the family a few years ago. At first, the owner seemed very kind and accommodating with children. There were toys, and our young kids loved the atmosphere. But the next morning, we went to the dining room at our scheduled breakfast time and it was pitch black. No one came out. Since I'd mentioned the day before that I was thinking about quitting, I started imagining all sorts of scary things. We tried calling reception, but nobody appeared or answered. My husband and kids were hungry and getting grumpy, and we didn't know what to do. Eventually we went behind the reception desk. The owner had apparently overslept. He apologized sleepily, said they couldn't provide breakfast, and gave our child a banana he had at home. I remember checking out in a hurry.

The owner was patient and kind with our two children, who are 8 and 2, even when they got noisy. The food was delicious, and they had fun in the kitchen area of the dining room. Our two-year-old was especially excited about the private bath.

The kids were smiling and having fun the whole time, thanks to how thoughtful and kind the owner was. It was our first pension stay as a family of four, with children aged five and almost one. We were happy with the food and didn't need to go out for a meal. I love the meat main course, and the pasta and soup are worth trying too. The bath was clean and spacious enough for us to relax while keeping an eye on the kids playing. It was available whenever it wasn't in use, so we went morning and evening. The whole pension, including our room, seemed well maintained. I liked its retro feel, especially the photos on the staircase. It's also easy to get around to the places we wanted to visit.
