The owners are an elderly husband and wife, with a maid helping out. The service is friendly, even if things are a little rough around the edges. It’s not for someone expecting hotel-standard facilities, but the low price and large bath are a real draw. I’d bring earplugs, since the building isn’t soundproof. I found the place while looking for affordable parking near Niigata Furumachi. It’s tucked down a back alley and looks like an old, established inn. Parking has to be booked by phone ahead of time, and the fee is about the same as nearby Koipa park. The two-story building is worn, and sound carries through the sliding doors. My room was right by the sink, so I could clearly hear other guests brushing their teeth and washing up. Yukatas, amenities, a fridge, kettle, and other basics are provided. You can use the bath whenever you like, but only one group can be in it at a time, so it’s basically private. I got in at a convenient time, though with a lot of guests there could be a wait.

The Japanese-style room felt spacious, even without a bed, and the toilet and bathroom were clean despite the building showing its age. It’s an easy walk to Furumachi, so it worked well for a one-night stay after drinking. I’d happily come back. I stayed on Christmas night in Niigata, when many hotels are either expensive or fully booked. The price here was still reasonable, as usual.

It felt like visiting my grandparents in the countryside, with a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The landlady was wonderful, and everything, including the bathroom, was clean and comfortable. I’d like to stay again if I get the chance.

The breakfast came with a huge bowl of rice, very Niigata, and it was delicious. By morning, I had this odd feeling of being back home, which made it easy to relax. The inn has the feel of a Showa-era place from the "Tora-san" movies. It’s old, but kept meticulously clean, and the warmth and hospitality made it a memorable part of the trip.

It’s around 4,500 yen for a room without meals, even on Saturdays, and payment is cash only. There’s no hot spring, just an ordinary bath, and the washroom and toilet are shared. Still, the bathroom is clean and the toilet is a Western-style washlet. The inn has a Showa-era atmosphere, but the clean rooms and bathroom meant it didn’t feel especially inconvenient.
