Chuzenji Pension

We spent a day here for our honeymoon, and they treated us beautifully. The room was cozy and warm, and the service was excellent. Dinner and breakfast were amazing, and we loved the private onsen experience too. They made it one of our best experiences ever. ARIGATO!

We only stayed one night by chuzenji lake, and wished we'd booked a week. The room looked out over the lake, and the location was amazing. The service really stood out: the lovely lady running the place made sure we had everything, and we could book a private onsen session at no cost. Dinner and breakfast were included in the price and both were top-notch. Dinner brought several delicious courses, with starters and both fish and beef, followed by dessert. We bought sake, which was very reasonably priced. The staff stayed close by, bringing each plate in turn and accommodating our requests. Breakfast the next morning was just as delicious. When it was raining as we left, the lady kindly gave us an umbrella. We can't recommend the place enough and plan to return on our next trip to Japan.

Dinner was very good and nicely served, a five-course meal with fish and meat. Just be aware that there's only one dinner time, 6 PM. Breakfast was local and served at 8 AM. The ryokan is old-fashioned, but very well kept, and felt like a distinctive local experience. The staff were wholly devoted to guests, and the onsen baths were very clean. It was a memorable stay, and I'd definitely recommend visiting and staying here.

What impressed me most was how thoughtfully the staff looked after us. We arrived in the rain and were offered umbrellas to take out for the day. Our shoes were soaked, and since shoes aren't allowed in the rooms, staff gave us newspapers to put underneath them so they could dry by the heater. The owners spoke limited English but made a real effort to engage with us, and it was great that some staff spoke Chinese too. The location is right beside the lake, near a bus stop, and within walking distance of chuzenji's attractions. Meals were delicious and carefully prepared. Dinner was six courses, including starters, soup, fish and steak, and dessert, with alcohol available for a small extra charge. Breakfast came with an omelette, sausage, bread and assorted jam, plus fruit. The onsen is a hot water bath, but it warmed us up after a cold, wet day. We had a very pleasant stay and felt well taken care of.
