June 2024. We rented the whole guesthouse. Since the manager isn't always there, we met at the arranged check-in time. They explained the facilities and rules, and we paid in cash in advance. You can use any room on either floor, but extra bedding beyond the number of people in the booking costs more. Keep that in mind if a small child jumps into an unused futon and makes a mess. The older building seemed very clean, and renting the whole place meant we didn't have to worry about the owner or other guests. The kitchen is well set up with a real gas stove, a restaurant-size fridge-freezer, and a dishwasher. It's easy to shop at the supermarket near Nikko Station before arriving, and space shouldn't be an issue. We could wash the dishes while everyone ate, which made cleanup easy. Garbage sorting is simple: bottles, cans, plastic bottles, and everything else as burnable waste. There are a few things to plan for. The wooden steps from the parking entrance are quite high in places, so suitcases and other large luggage are difficult to carry. Anyone with trouble walking should take note. The outdoor bath gives an easy view of the next room, so it helps to stay with considerate companions. Bugs gather around the lights at night, so if you dislike insects, use the indoor bath.
