Hotel Famitic Myojin

There’s a giant stag beetle at the entrance, supposedly the world’s largest. 🥳 When the resort first opened, it even had TV commercials. Back then the entrance had a pool 🌊, tennis courts 🎾, cycling 🚴‍♂️, and dance classes 💃, quite a range of facilities. 😅 These days you often see camp buses. Look up and it feels endless, but look down and you’ll see what’s there: a camp among 400-year-old cedar trees. No convenience stores or supermarkets nearby, which makes it feel like a different world of nature. The stars are beautiful, and there are flying squirrels. I think there are owls too. So much nature. 🥳 Hahaha 💪 Let’s do our best. 🌠

The manager was nice, and there was a cat you could sometimes pet. My room was up a steep staircase at the top. It was old-fashioned inside, but at least kept clean enough. Along the way there was a retro game-style washing machine, surprisingly well cared for given its age. Wi-Fi was available, and the bath had a small sauna. The food wasn’t bad, and breakfast was a buffet, which was great. I stayed for a school training camp. It was extremely dirty, but acceptable for that kind of stay. I wouldn’t choose it for business, though it seems fine for a school camp or a mountain climbing stop. People who are particular about cleanliness may not like it.

I made a last-minute decision to stay over the Obon holiday. The price was reasonable, I got a coupon too, and the room came to just 3,000 yen per night. It’s an old-fashioned place, but I wanted to take a look back at its history, lol. What I remember most is how kind the owner was.

I was there on a business trip, though the hotel seems to mainly serve as a student dormitory. It’s quite isolated, with no shops or convenience store nearby. Inside, there are vending machines for drinks and instant ramen. I arrived at night and could hear frogs croaking. The air was clean. There were lots of insects around the streetlights and other bright spots. A Simmons bed in the room was a nice plus. Unfortunately, I was told the large public bath wasn’t filled with hot water, probably because there weren’t many guests. The price felt a bit high, so I’m giving it three stars. Still, it’s the kind of place I might consider visiting with my family someday.
