Mazuyaki, our host, was the nicest man and showed us some beautiful places. We had a great time chatting about fishing and camping, too. The house itself is beautiful, filled with handmade artworks and surrounded by nature. This was my favourite place in Japan by far, and I’d happily return. I can’t recommend it enough if you’re going to Nikko.

Beautiful scenery, a lovely house, and the nicest host. I’d give it even more stars if I could!

The river is right beside the place, and you can hear it all the time. We were up the hill, away from town. Our host was fantastic, warmly welcoming us and then giving us space when we wanted it. I’d definitely recommend staying here in Nikko.

The kotatsu, a table with a built-in foot heater, was amazing. I want one at home! Midorian is an older house with loads of charm, and our kind, thoughtful host made sure we had everything we needed. It’s within walking distance of the Imperial Villa memorial park, which is worth a visit, and about 30 minutes from the temples at Nikko park. We had a lovely stay.

The Japanese-style rooms and bunk beds were all good, and I really liked being so close to nature. It’s a 10-minute walk from the bus stop. Our host was very helpful and sorted out a lot of issues for us.
