I bought all my souvenirs at the hotel shop. Prices were fair, sometimes even lower than local shops, and the items were good quality. It was also a nice way to support the hotel. The bus pass is handy too: it cuts the cost between the station and hotel, and lets you hop off at stops along the way to enjoy the views before getting back on. It’s a lovely spot in the mountains, with a lake nearby and forest all around. The quiet was striking, I could hear a clock ticking in my clean, comfortable room. Staff were polite and professional, the hot spring was relaxing, and the local water tasted great to drink. Breakfast and dinner were both delicious, made with fresh, carefully chosen ingredients. Everything felt very clean, from the towels and bedding to the bathroom and toilet, which smelled fresh. The whole stay was peaceful and restful, with good food and thoughtful service.

The clean hotel, lovely setting, and friendly, polite staff made this the best part of my Japan trip. Both meals were delicious, and I enjoyed the onsen too. I’d definitely return on another visit to Nikko.

The yukata were a fun part of staying at Okunikko Kogen Hotel. There were lots of traditional designs to choose from, and wearing one around the hotel, including at meals, added a cultural touch to the experience. I also liked the bus pass. It made the trip between the station and hotel less expensive, and we could get off at different stops to take in the scenery. The gift shop was another surprise, with good quality souvenirs at reasonable prices, sometimes cheaper than local stores. I ended up buying everything there. The setting is quiet and lovely, with mountains, forest, and a lake nearby. My room was warm, spotless, and comfortable, and the silence at night made it easy to relax. Towels, sheets, bedding, bathroom, and toilet were all clean. The staff were so kind and attentive that their hospitality stayed with me after the trip. Breakfast and dinner were memorable, with fresh ingredients, and the hot spring soothed away my tiredness. The local water tasted pure and refreshing too. All these things made my stay feel special, and it’s a place in Nikko I’d wholeheartedly recommend for peace, nature, and Japanese hospitality. I know I’ll remember my time here for a long while.

The meals were a real standout. I’ve lived in Japan for 5 years and used to take regular weekend breaks in Nikko. We came back recently for a quick tour and stayed here. The traditional tatami rooms were great, and I liked both the indoor and outdoor sulphur onsen baths. You can get meal sets, and I’d recommend them: it was one of the best traditional Japanese dining experiences I can remember. They also offer a nice Sake tasting set with dinner. There are some dog friendly rooms too, if that matters to you. One small drawback, it felt more geared toward Japanese guests, since only a few staff seemed to speak English. Enjoy!

Dinner was generous and outstanding. Both the onsen and rotenburo were just the right temperature.
