I paid 500 yen for a weekday afternoon visit. There seemed to be other customers, so they put me in a private family bath. The tub was just the right size for two or three people, and I had it to myself. The woman who seemed to be the proprietress gave excellent service. They handed out disposable slippers as soon as I arrived, so the COVID-19 precautions seemed thorough. The water was a little too hot for my preference, and the bath uses a circulating system. I also noticed hair in the shower stalls and on the changing room floor, so people who are very particular about cleanliness may want to avoid it.

The spring is classed under the Hot Spring Law as metasilicic acid, and the water is recirculated. It was clear, colorless, and had no smell or taste. The water felt soft, and my skin felt a little smoother after bathing. The facilities were very clean, and I had a pleasant stay.

Mt. Kayagatake and Mt. Kanegatake rise majestically right in front of this quiet, lovely inn. It’s also where Kyuya Fukada, who wrote "One Hundred Famous Mountains of Japan," stayed the night before he died on Mt. Kayagatake.

I came here on foot from the station 40 years ago. I still remember hearing the wrong price when I booked and having to switch to a room-only plan, but they also prepared a home-cooked meal for me.
