Minshuku Osaki

I really liked how comfortable the service was, and the booking site Yuko Yuko was easy to use and very helpful. The seafood dinner was a huge surprise, way better than I expected. I had the hot spring to myself. An open-air bath would have been nice, though at this price I can't complain. The building is old, as you'd expect. Both a beach walk and a visit to the National Treasure Kinrenji Temple Midadō Hall are well worth it.

Kuro-kun was so laid-back, and my kids loved petting him. The owner and landlady were kind and made our stay comfortable. They clearly love cats, too. If you don't like cats, it's probably best to mention that ahead of time, and I'm sure they'll be considerate. This was my second visit, about five years after my first, and this time we booked the standard plan through Jalan. The traditional guesthouse is a little dated but well cared for. The bath is a hot spring that families can use. We were very satisfied with the generous amount of food: sashimi with flounder, tuna, two kinds of scallops and whole live prawns, pufferfish sashimi, boiled fish, three hot pots with large clams, another bivalve whose name I've forgotten, and squid shabu-shabu with green onions, Chinese cabbage and enoki mushrooms. There was also fried pufferfish, shrimp and shishito peppers, plus rice, clam soup and fruit. At this price, I can't imagine anyone being disappointed. We'll stay again next time we go swimming in the ocean.

My first stay at a guesthouse, since I usually choose hotels or inns, turned out to be very satisfying. The shared Western-style toilet was easy to use, and I didn't feel stressed by it. The changing room was very clean, too. There's no bathroom in the room. The two baths, one large and one smaller, are available when other guests aren't using them, so I got to relax alone. I had the pufferfish course and enjoyed it. Breakfast comes with two slices of bread if you choose it, and that was filling. It's a very quiet, restful place, and the mascot cat, Kuro-chan, is adorable and comforting. There's a small parking spot in front; ask and the staff will show you where.

The mascot cat was friendly and adorable, and the food was the highlight. My family loves seafood, so we had high hopes, and the sashimi, grilled fish and boiled fish were all seasoned just right. The grilled shrimp with mayonnaise? was especially tasty and unlike other Japanese dishes. I was also surprised they served sashimi at breakfast. The building feels old, but you can see they've taken care of it.
