The cat was nice, and the telephone ringer at breakfast was funny. The sad bit was having to leave. The front desk closes at 21:00, and they could use private showers.

The little group-friendly feel was a bonus, and I enjoyed meeting other young skiers and snowboarders. Meals were simple and satisfying, and the clean tatami room gave me the traditional stay I wanted. Best of all, there’s an onsen right in the accommodation, perfect for relaxing after a day on the slopes. The owner was such a caring, welcoming woman, and her adorable cat made the place feel even homier. I’d happily recommend this authentic spot in Nozawa Onsen.

The room was clean and warm, even if the shared areas have a pretty worn-in look. The owners were genuinely friendly and helpful. It’s close to everything, including the shuttle bus, and there’s an onsen in the building, though the water was VERY hot. If you mainly need somewhere to sleep between skiing and going out for food or drinks, this is great value. Rustic, but it worked well for us.

Getting here with luggage was easy, since the inn is right by the Chuo terminal where the Nozawa Onsen Liner from Iiyama stops. The Nozawa Ski Shuttle also leaves from the terminal and takes you straight to the slopes. The room and onsen were both cozy, and there was a cute cat around too. The innkeeper was lovely and helpful, spoke great English, and even helped me with my parcels. Just what I needed for a snowboard trip.
