WOOD DESIGN PARK - Campground

A really nice place. Kids will love it.

We spent Christmas here with the kids and stayed in a Glass Cabin by the river, with our own terrace. Being right by the water let us enjoy the natural setting, and the bath looked stylish. Open the window and it becomes a semi-open-air bath. That evening we barbecued on the terrace. There was lots of meat and vegetables, and it was delicious. The unheated kotatsu added a nice atmosphere. We picked the marshmallow-roasting option too, and the golden-brown marshmallows were great between crackers. For breakfast, we chose three sides from the bread buffet and ate in the room. It was healthy, and the kids were happy with it. We made more memories exploring the treehouse and sky deck. Our Christmas-only plan included cake and champagne or wine, so we got to enjoy the holiday properly. There are other interesting rooms too, including a dinosaur room and one with a tent inside, so have a look if you want to make some memories! 😆

The photos on the website and Instagram looked beautiful, but the place itself felt shoddy and dirty, with cobwebs everywhere. In the Glass Cabin, I expected to get to the BBQ area from my room, but the construction was poor and the windows were hard to open and close, so I had to go the long way around. The BBQ area had holes in it, which felt dangerous, and it was too dark to see well. It was a slightly cool day, and the air conditioning didn’t work. The bare floor was cold underfoot, and I couldn’t stay there comfortably. The staff seemed poorly trained to me, and were unfriendly without giving much explanation. They offer workshops, but just hand you the things. There are lots of drinks at the bar, but it’s expensive and far away. Making nagashi somen was fun, though next door they were cutting wood and flour ended up everywhere. The kids’ room itself was average, and I think kids would get bored after about 30 minutes. The outdoor area didn’t feel like a kids’ room, just a place with sawdust lying around. There was an acorn pool, but it was dirty and I didn’t want my kids playing in it. We were told to take our shoes off, yet our socks still got dirty. There wasn’t a bonfire on a day with fewer guests either. It felt more like having a BBQ in a covered hut than going glamping.
