Oki Plaza Hotel

We came to the Oki Islands to do research and see the Gorei-fuyru festival, where sacred horses run through Saigo Port's streets toward Tamawakasu-Mikoto Shrine. We chose Oki Plaza Hotel for the location and strong reviews, and are already planning to come back. The hotel was near the end of a facelift, and we got to stay in a newly renovated corner suite on a high floor. The room was spectacular, the best we've experienced in hotels around the world. It had sweeping 180-degree views over the Sea of Japan and Saigo Port harbor. We could open all the windows and let in the sea air. A cedar tub with its own harbor view made the room feel like it had a private onsen. Our stay included breakfast and dinner. The Oki Islands are known for seafood, and the elegant kaiseki dinners and wide-ranging breakfasts both featured beautifully prepared local specialties. The staff worked tirelessly to accommodate our plans and requests. English-speaking visitors like us should expect to use Google Translate quite a bit, since the islands aren't really set up for English speakers. We found that was a big part of their charm. We can't wait to return.

The staff were kind, the views were stunning, and the onsen was lovely. Then there were those gorgeous kaiseki dinners. This place really has everything. I didn't want to leave, and I'll be back next time I'm in Okinoshima!

My husband and I came here recently for our honeymoon and loved our stay. The room and amenities were comfortable and very clean, and both dinner and breakfast were authentic and delicious. The staff were warm and friendly, even though we don't speak much Japanese. They even helped us sort out a rental car booking mistake over the phone. We'll recommend Oki Plaza Hotel to our friends.
